How To Give Up The Things That Don’t Serve You

What Are You Done Experiencing And What Do You Want To Experience More Of In Your Lifetime?

There are things in life that just don’t serve us – and we may never want to feel or do again.

And then there are things that allow us to grow and create happiness – and we want to experience them more.

Take a challenge

I challenge you to get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.

On the left side, make a list of things that you’ve had enough of doing in this lifetime.

For example, when you get married, you are done with dating men / women that you don’t know. You are not sad that you can’t date strangers anymore. You are just complete without ever dating again.

Other examples of things that don’t really serve a purpose anymore in your life and you may be ready to be done experiencing could include: drinking too much, watching trashy tv, going back to school, running marathons, dieting, overeating, undereating, or stressing out over a holiday.

Not all experiences that do not serve us are negative experiences – many are just experiences that no longer serve us. You have done enough of these things in your lifetime and have no need to experience them anymore.

This is not meant to deprive you, but to complete you.

The other side

Then on the other side of that list, make a list of things that you would like to experience MORE of.

For example, if you are done with dating, you are excited about being married. You are excited to experience more growth in your marriage.

You are done with drinking too much and are excited about waking up and enjoying early Saturday mornings.

You are done watching trashy tv and are excited to spend your leisure time learning and growing your mind.

You are done running marathons and are excited to stop devoting hours to that training and to start trying new and different forms of exercise.

You are done with dieting and are much more interested in learning to eat healthy and tune into your body.

You are done stressing over the holidays and are excited to enjoy the time with loved ones.

You are done overeating at parties and feeling shame and are excited to go to a function and not obsess about food the whole time.
